Have you ever wondered why you have to set the date on your wristwatch regularly?

Basically, a month on a wristwatch always consists of 31 days. This is because the so-called date disk is located under the dial. The numbers 1 - 31 are listed on this disk. When the watch has completed a 24-hour cycle, the date jumps forward one digit. It always does this strictly from 1 - 31, regardless of the month. The watch does not automatically recognize whether a month has 31, 30 or even only 28 or 29 days. The date must therefore be reset manually at the beginning of each month.

The date must be reset on the 1st of each subsequent month:

- March

- May

- July

- October

- December

Are there wristwatches that always display the date correctly without me having to reset it from time to time?

There are such watches, yes. For example, most smartwatches and digital watches always display the correct date automatically. However, the most interesting type of watches that display the date correctly are mechanical watches with a so-called perpetual calendar.
